Overview

"Faceless Hair Cry is a celebration of femininity and the many transformations the female body endures. The fusion of music, lighting and movement creates provoking imagery that draws the audience in completely. This work is perceptibly enthralling and McIntyre is a tenacious performer and choreographer.”

THIS CAMPAIGN

Coming off the back of multiple sell-out iterations of the live show, and having won ‘Best Dance Performance’ and ‘Best Sound Design’ in Auckland Fringe festival 2020, we are now looking to give Faceless Hair Cry a more sustainable life - in the form of a narrative dance film.

By donating to this Boosted campaign, you are not only allowing us to re-imagine this acclaimed live show in a new medium, but you will be supporting work that examines the female spirit, led by incredible women artists.

The support you provide will help with film shooting and production costs, and ensure that the creative team are paid a fee for their work, encouraging women artists to keep making and thriving in Aotearoa's dance and film industries.

THE WORK

"Faceless Hair Cry" is a romantic duet danced solo. It explores the idea of transformation between temporary bodies, using images of biology, fertility, pollination and the act of ritual. Visually, the dancer very rarely leaves the ground, matted to the floor. Despite her violent efforts to manoeuvre away from this binding, something keeps pulling her back. There is a constant juxtaposition of real and fake, nature and the artificial, and illusion versus allusion.

The essence of the piece is a conversation around rituals of self-discovery in our current social climate. It is intended to connect with viewers by highlighting our constant need for growth, grounding, and liberation in a world where despite technological and social advances, it feels harder to connect than ever.
