Extra Rice

A coming-of-age short film about Rie, an average teenage girl who overachieves, overthinks, and is overwhelmed.

This is a glimpse of one eventful Sunday where she grapples with the pressure of being an eldest daughter in a Filipino household, tries to reconcile her family’s Christian values with having a crush from church, and prepares for her strict grandmother’s arrival.

Rie is discovering herself, embracing her personal views, and gaining confidence all while trying to stay true to her family and cultural/religious background.

We overthink and overanalyse situations in fear of being misunderstood, but sometimes, surprisingly, understanding and encouragement can come from the person we least expect. It’s okay to take the risks. It’s ok to get that extra rice. 🍚
