Explorations

Explorations is a project that will present two concerts to Dunedin audiences of contemporary music for violin and viola. It features a mini-residency of violinist and composer Mark Menzies, one of New Zealand’s premiere violinists, who will work with various Dunedin musicians to present a range of music from around the world in Dunedin for the first time.

The first of these concerts will take place on the 14th of August and includes works that explore the physical capabilities of the violin and the viola and includes works from New Zealand, Australia and Italy. The second concert in the series features music for Violin/Viola and electronics.

This crowdfunding initiative enables you to contribute to broadening this projects overall scope and reach. The more money raised, the more performers we can work with in putting this concert on. The goal is to be able to offer at least ten violinists from the wider Dunedin community the opportunity to work with Mark in presenting his semi-installation work Kuaka, based on the migratory patterns of the bar-tailed godwit.
