Essence at Basement Theatre

After a successful first season at The Factory Theatre, we are thrilled to announce we will be deepening and devloping the work for a second season at Basement Theatre!

Weaving stories of Dance Culture, Artist Mental Health and the importance of Soul-sister-hood for young women, all within the context of Dance as a universal language. Concieved through the lived connection between Ehetere Rua (Ngāi Te Rangi, Aotearoa) and Eimi Kubota (Ibaraki, Nihon), who met and developed their friendship from dance first, instead of verbal English. Proving that we can explore and explain complex feelings and global issues through the language of body. With two months left before Eimi's visa ends and she returns home to Nihon/Japan, we want to send her off with an unforgettable 5 shows from 16th - 20th of April, making her last days here in Aotearoa NZ the cream of the crop. Her impact in the Hip-hop/street dance community during her short time here is undeniable. Feeling the weight of the time left to raise the funds for the practical costs of the show, we are reaching out to the wider community to help us boost it to the finish line! We want to make sure our phenomenal talent are fed and paid period.

This show is an ode to collective healing and finding your kindred, through the vehicle of Hip-Hop Street Dance and Contemporary.
