Overview
WHAT IS DOWN THE LINE?
Down The Line is a 15 minute, dramatic analysis on the stereotypes and ideas of being a “kiwi.” It explores what being a kiwi is and how it has both negative and positive ideas. It explores themes of generational influence and masculinity.
After his imaginary Dad threatens to leave, a troubled young man must fulfill his fathers expectations by watching a rugby game, at the cost of his other relationships.
This film is a project being made by a group of 3rd year Massey Students who are passionate about this industry and are looking to make an awesome film to have under our belts for when we transition into the film industry in the coming years.
WHY?
Every so often, there’s always a major sports tournament on. World cups, euros, super rugby, Bledisloe cup and more. Our writer, Jesse Marshall, loves sports and was at a football game recently when he realised how caught up in the game he was and that the outcome of the game would impact his mood.
People get so caught up in sports. They go to extreme measures to support the teams they love.
Here in New Zealand, the All Blacks are almost worshiped. For decades, they’ve dominated the rugby scene. The “idea” of the All Blacks is almost synonymous with the idea of being a true “kiwi.” The All Blacks are part of many of our identities.
So we wanted to make a film on how these ideas can impact young people. How these ideas can impact families. The All Blacks have been around for decades, so what can that look like over generations?
HOW WILL THE FUNDING HELP US?
We're super excited to get this film off the script pages and onto the screen. With your donations we will be able to pay our actors, feed our cast and crew, set dress locations and help pay for transport of gear and people.
We want to see this film succeed and submit it into festivals further down the line, so anything, whether big or small, will help us in doing so.
