The Project

Our Story:

Deep Water is a female driven coming-of-age short film that follows Aurora and her two friends, Helen and Leila. They embark on a camping trip in the last summer after high school before they inevitably split up as they emerge into adulthood.

This film aims to explore the feeling of loss of control when you are on the precipice of total independence.

The film also aims to bring to light the nuances and conflicts of these female friendships. We want to highlight the importance of those bonds, because who could survive something as scary as adulthood without their friends?

Our Why:

All crew and cast are young adults who can relate and want to see these emotions reflected in a truthful story. This short film is for anyone who can relate to feeling like they are in over their head when they are in the grey area between childhood and adulthood. We are also all committed to portraying the beautiful intricacies of female friendship in ways which stray from sexist archetypes that are typical in teen films.

Our Ask:

Our writer and director, Caitlin Paul, was fortunate enough to receive a small amount of funding from South Seas Film School for winning a pitching competition with this story. It was selected by industry professionals from 30 other stories, and has been acknowledged for having potential on the film festival circuit.

Your generous donations would help us to hire equipment, pay for locations, art department, and to keep our lovely cast and crew fed and happy.

We are asking for your support because we are students and all budget comes out of our own pockets, which isn't a lot! However, we also understand not everyone is able to donate, so we would also appreciate it greatly if you helped to spread the word.

Our Team:

Our team consists of young film school students at South Seas Film School. Our Heads of Departments (Including the writer, director, producer, AD, DoP, camera assistant and editor) are all young wahinē who are passionate about uplifting stories which truthfully reflect our experiences as young women.
