Overview

NZTrio is all about powerful, live, intimate and affecting performances. Since the Covid-19 disruption to the concert calendar, they are turning lemons into lemonade and taking a rare opportunity to lay down some tracks.

This album would mark the 10th NZTrio album over a 17 year history, but the very first to feature the new permanent members Amalia Hall (violin) and Somi Kim (piano) who joined Ashley Brown (cello) in 2019 following a transition period of change.

“Thank you for your support during a particularly difficult time for the arts. This project extends beyond us three musicians to a much wider industry - our whānau - in the form of production, technical, venue hire, piano tuning, composer community, and more. Not to mention the ‘essential service’ that we believe music provides all people. We look forward to crafting this album, curating, and documenting the rehearsals and behind-the-scenes process of putting it all together, which we hope to share with you on the other side!” - NZTrio

Check out our intro video above for more information about the concept behind this exciting project. And tune in a bit later on for a live-stream performance when we've reached our milestone. Read on for extended bio, or find a full version on our website: https://nztrio.com/nz-trio-story/.

Message from Alex Taylor

"I love these guys! Not only are NZTrio committed to engaging their audience and mastering their craft, they are also dedicated and convincing advocates of the music of New Zealand composers. Their albums are fine records of their eclecticism, precision and enthusiasm for making great chamber music. Bring on a new one!"
