DanceAbility New Zealand
Hahna Briggs | Dance
Overview
Kia ora Koutou,
If you are reading this then you are interested in supporting me on my quest to get to Eugene, Oregon, USA for a 4 week long DanceAbility teacher certification. Thank you for your consideration.
My name is Hahna Briggs and I am a dancer and advocate living in Dunedin, Otago. I moved to Dunedin in 2007 to complete my Masters in Dance Studies. During this time I began performing and choreographing in inclusive dance works. Inclusive dance incorporates dancers with and without disabilities. I was honoured to receive the University of Otago, Caroline Plummer Fellowship in Community Dance in 2013. At the conclusion of my fellowship project I began teaching the GASP! Dance Inclusive classes with my super pal Jenny Newstead. GASP! Dance Inclusive have performed at the Undercover Artists Festival (Brisbane), The Body Festival (Christchurch) and we are regulars at the Dunedin Fringe Festival.
We pride ourselves on finding new ideas and fresh inspiration for our dancers to sink their teeth into. This is why I want to attend the four week DanceAbility teacher certification.
This course will allow me to bring valuable skills and knowledge back to the Dunedin dance community. DanceAbility was created by Alito Alessi and Karen Nelson in the late 1980's and Alito taught the first four week course in 1997. Since then, more than 600 dance artists, coming from 45 different countries have attend the training. The global nature of this course will allow me to network and make some great new dance friends.
I'm inviting you to boogie along with me on this exciting dance adventure by donating to and sharing my Boosted campaign. I'm fund raising for $2,500, which will cover the costs of the course fees plus a wee bit for expenses such as travel, food and accomodation ??
Nga mihi nui
