Overview

The CSO has for many years enjoyed a close association with New Zealand composer, conductor and brass master, Kenneth Young. Therefore it is with great delight that in September of this year we will perform the world premiere of his new work! Composed for the CSO and the multi award winning Woolston Brass, this piece combines the forces of two of Christchurch's most iconic musical organisations.

Having started his musical career as a tuba player, Young studied composition at Canterbury and Auckland Universities and has won a number of awards and accolades for his compositions.

As champions of New Zealand music we here at the CSO are especially excited to have commissioned this work from Kenneth. His experience in both the world of orchestral and brass music will make for an impressive symphony.

A commission of this nature takes a lot of time and energy on behalf of the composer and this needs to be rewarded. With this campaign we hope to raise enough money to cover at least two thirds of the cost of the commission - if not the entire amount. Join us by contributing to this campaign. Your donation will benefit not only the CSO, our audience and the Woolston Brass, but also the wider musical community as this unique work will live on in the canon of New Zealand symphonic works for many, many years to come.
