Composure
A live-choreography experience
We have an awesome, on-going creative, dance and choreographic project that we are super passionate about. We would really love your help in our development of two performances in Auckland and Dunedin, 2017!
WHO:
Kia ora, we are Leah Carrell and Benjamin Mitchell, recent graduates from the Unitec contemporary dance programme. We began Composure as a student project in 2015 and throughout 2016 have been working with dancers and emerging choreographers to develop this practice.
WHAT:
We meet weekly and explore all sorts of dance, movement, and choreographic ideas. Each session we do a couple of tasks, a long improvisation and then have a discussion about our discoveries. We are slowly building a collective movement language so that we can create engaged, creative, and entertaining improvised performances. We write a blog each week to record our discoveries. Have a read, watch our progress, comment with an idea or response!
In 2017, we will perform in both the Auckland Fringe Festival (February) and the Dunedin Fringe Festival (March). Each performance will be 12 hours long (11am-11pm) and as such will explore the boundaries of performance providing challenges to our physical stamina, our creative thinking and making and, most significantly, will offer the audience an innovative way of watching performance. (Don't worry, the participants will operate within a roster system so that each performer has their own schedule within the 12 hours of dancing and choreographing, allowing breaks for rest/food!!)
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP:
We really want to perform in Auckland as well as to travel out of Auckland all the way to the deep south to share our practice and performances with Dunedin audiences. There are significant costs involved in hiring performance spaces, production equipment, travelling, and of course our marketing campaign. So far, the whole project has been self-funded, but after working on this project for more than 10 months, we believe it's time to start paying our dancers! We would absolutely love your help, no donation big or small goes amiss and we will be forever grateful!!
Please share our campaign with your friends, family, colleagues, the man on the bus, the lady at your coffee shop, the person who parks beside you, a stranger on the street!!
Again, here is our blog - keep in touch!
Thank you thank you thank you for your support and we can't wait to see you at either (or both of!) the Auckland and Dunedin Fringe Festivals!! XXX
