The Project

New Plymouth band 'The Mara' is embarking on an ambitious project to create a powerful music video for their new song, 'Mr. Professor Man.'

This powerful, energetic track, penned by frontman Jordan Jones, draws from his personal experiences growing up with ADHD in a school system that struggled to understand him. The music video aims to foster acceptance and understanding of neurodiversity, highlighting the importance of inclusive education. This project is important to The Mara as the majority of members are neurodivergent in different ways. Set in a real classroom, the video will authentically capture the essence of childhood, featuring 18 local Taranaki children who have been selected to participate.

These young actors will gain invaluable experience working in a professional production, alongside seasoned local actor Josh Gross, who will portray the titular 'Mr. Professor Man.' This project is a unique opportunity for our community.

WHO IS INVOLVED?

We are proud to be using a local Taranaki cast and crew, providing them with a platform to showcase and develop their talents. A team of local film enthusiasts will be involved in the production process, learning the intricacies of filmmaking from a professional crew, including the acclaimed New Zealand Emerging Cinematographer of the Year and multi-award-winning Director of Photography, Jared Jones.

This hands-on experience will not only enrich their skills but also strengthen the creative industry in Taranaki, paving the way for future projects and opportunities.

By supporting this campaign, you are not only helping to create an inspiring piece of art but also advocating for a more inclusive and understanding school environment for the 20% of students who are neurodiverse. This project will have a lasting impact on the community, raising awareness and inspiring change in our educational system.

On completion of this project, we will host a 'Premiere Viewing' where all funding donors will receive free entry and be some of the first few to view the completed video.

Join us in bringing 'Mr. Professor Man' to life and championing the cause of neurodiversity.

Your contribution will help make this vision a reality, providing an incredible experience for everyone involved and promoting a message of empathy and inclusion.
