The Project
Upper Hutt, 1984. Bust out your shoulder pads and join Cecily as she discovers her true self, through the wonderful world of fashion and style guide, Colour Me Beautiful.
Cecily has escaped to New Zealand from London, following her divorce. She befriends an eccentric group of women, intent on living life to the fullest, and finds fulfilment in ways she never expected. Cecily's journey takes some hilarious twists and turns as she navigates her way through the minefield that is 1980s Upper Hutt.
Rich with nostalgia and the joy of self-discovery, come let Cecily colour your world…
Kia ora tatou,
Beginning at BATS in 2018, Cecily has been on quite a journey, both onstage and off. Creating and performing this work has brought me so much joy over the past six and half years. I initially made it as a way of dipping my toes once again, following a length hiatus from performing. Since then I have had three sellout seasons in Wellington, and taken the old gal across the ditch to Sydney.
I began my theatre journey at NASDA, graduating in 2001, and I am delighted to bring this work to Ōtautahi, my artistic home, and to Otepoti where my wonderful director Hilary Norris built her career for several decades.
This is largely a solo venture. My show is a tiny package, me a table, a chair, and some fabric.
However, you guessed it, $0 funding.
I need to raise $3,500 to cover the cost of:
Airfares: $400
Accommodation: $568
Poster Printing and Distribution: $1680
APRA: Approximately: $200
Additional Advertising: $100
Design Work: $400
Anything you could spare to help get this show on the road once more would be so greatly appreciated!
Nga mihi nui,
Bea
