Chromacon 2013

The Project
Chromacon is an independent Illustration and Comics Arts Festival taking place on the 12th May 2013 at the Aotea Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.
Chromacon is a celebration of visual storytelling. It is a non-profit, grassroots effort to create a platform where artists can showcase and promote original art and other self-published works to the wider community. The event will also feature drawing/painting demos, artist talks, discussion panels and other experiences to engage and educate attendees on visual storytelling in New Zealand and beyond.
Our chief aim is to provide a dedicated event for New Zealand artists to share art and ideas in an intimate, art-focused environment. We envision a platform through which our internationally recognised artists, designers and illustrators can share their work not only with each other and small, dispersed communities, but with the general public on a larger scale. By crafting a compromise between an intimate art-audience environment and an open public event, Chromacon provides unique opportunities and experiences for both arts practitioners and audiences.
Chromacon also imagines itself as an organisation capable of educating, promoting and advocating for comic artist and illustrators. Art from these fields is often misunderstood and dismissed; we hope to develop a larger, more insightful community who better understand and appreciate not only the end products presented at the event but the ideas and processes behind these works.
Looking ahead, we hope to develop Chromacon into an annual event, taking local art to international audiences, and bring international talent to our shores in the name of furthering artistic, intellectual and professional exchange and collaboration.
Due to the community driven, non-profit nature of Chromacon, our
budget is extremely limited. However, we would love to
promote our inaugural event to as many art-lovers in New Zealand as
possible. As such, we need your support to help fund our
street poster campaign with Phantom Billstickers in Auckland CBD
and other marketing materials.
100% of funds generated from this project will go towards letting
as many New Zealanders know about Chromacon as possible.
Thank you for your time and support. We hope to see you in May!
