Overview
Capgun Corp is a collective community of independent hip-hop artists based in Ōtautahi, Aotearoa. We run events, foster community and create beats for all to enjoy.
About Us
This collective was founded as a means to give independent artists a collective voice and inject a sense of positivity and inclusion into the local hip-hop scene. We are a diverse team of audio engineers, graphic designers, free-thinkers and artists that have built a resource base to help artists create their music, while also providing them with a platform to play it live.
Our music tells our story - we understand that being authentic to our experience is integral to growing our culture.
The South Island is brimming with unheard talent, but the recent shortage of collective collaboration within the local hip-hop community has resulted in less opportunities for these artists to connect with their listeners. Ultimately, our aim is to bring both listeners and artists alike together, forming a community of productive connections through music.
What We Do & Why We Do It
Since inception we have put on a wide variety of live events across the country including open mic competitions, live collaborations and not-for-profit fundraisers for local youth organisations. Through actively connecting with our musical community, we have also used our resources to record, mix and master the music of local artists and give them a platform to play their music live.
The Capgun mission is built on three core objectives:
- To use our musical platform to help support our community - with a growing list of members, we aim to extend that support as far as we can
- To create music for local artists and give them a platform to perform their music
- To inject inclusion and positivity into the local hip-hop scene
With your help, the funds raised through this Boosted campaign will help us:
- Continue and grow our work in the events space across Ōtautahi. The funding will help keep our events accessible to all and assist us in promoting the events to a wider audience. We hope to run more open mic competitions at a variety of venues across the wider city, encouraging wordsmiths of all levels to give it a go, express themselves and connect with other creatives. We also hope to be able to run and promote further fundraiser events, workshops and collaboration events to continue to build and foster the local grassroots scene.
- As well as our work in the community, it has also been a goal since Capgun’s formation to record and release studio quality collaboration albums and share them with Aotearoa. This is broken down to three main areas that funding will go towards; recording, promoting and touring. Currently, the collective has 4 albums in ther works. With your help we will also be able to create high quality music videos and engage with our audience on a visual basis.
We know times have been a bit rough lately so if you are not in the position to donate, we would appreciate it hugely if you could share our campaign with your friends and whānau. We’ll be posting about it all over our social media channels and we’d love for you to be a part of the journey by spreading the word!
We are so grateful for the support and love we’ve received so far in bringing Capgun Corp to life over the last year! We love seeing your faces in the crowd and vibing to the tunes - thanks for being a part of the ride.
Huge things to come from the Capgun fam! Big love to you all.
