Overview
I am working towards making Born to Create a platform that gives voice to women and explores their take on creativity.
With the help of Boosted and The Auckland Arts Comeback, I want to create a docu-series interviewing 25-30 women who share their stories, not only about creativity, but about their life journeys and how creativity has helped them heal.
When we say "creativity" or "being creative", it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be an artist. With Born to Create, I want to challenge this term and its generically understood meaning.
The women I interview use creativity in many ways – as a means to survive, to nurture, to find a shelter when homeless, to overcome trauma, to make a living while living on the streets, to express their inner life and emotions and so on. What can we learn from them about life, simply by listening without judgement?
These Born to Create docu-series videos will be displayed on YouTube and my website, and eventually, I aim to create and publish a book featuring these women, the interviews and images. The book is planned for May 2023. The videos will be published on a rolling basis.
Born to Create will feature women from various corners of New Zealand, not just Tāmaki Makaurau. You'll hear stories from women of diverse cultural backgrounds, from those who identify as women.
Help me make this project happen!
With your generous support, money raised through this campaign will go towards a video editor, gear and book printing costs. Funds will also help cover the time it takes to create the book, take photos and travel to and from various locations.
Thank you so much for your support.
