The Project

In 2019 I moved to Kampala, Uganda to pursue my career as an artist. Using photography and film, I collaborated with dancers, musicians and other visual artists, making work that crosses physical and cultural borders. However, the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted that plan and deconstructed the world as we knew it.

With this campaign, I am relocating my studio-based practice to Akepiro Studios in Auckland, and producing a body of work that uses material from my time in Uganda and New Zealand that depicts the movement of cultures during this unique time we are living through. A blend of abstract portraits and representational records of places and people will create a narrative of distant worlds that fall together in harmony; Where a dancer’s motion makes time stand still, a song of trumpets fill silent spaces and the abundant colours of uncommon earths intertwine.

The studio is the sorting house of these creative ideas. Bringing together text, photography, film and music to configure them into works of art that tell a story of civilization in motion. This body of work will be shown at NEW Gallery later in 2020, building on my solo show there in 2019.

The money raised through boosted will go towards the first months rent, the initial set-up of the studio space (work bench and furniture), and photographic printing for the show.
