Overview
THE FILM.
Bear Hugs is about a group of hurting teddy bears and other toys that come together and talk about their traumatic experiences. Everyone in the room has experienced one or more terrifying moments with a child, either thrown, dragged, ripped, burnt, cut, drawn on or just had a beating. Their biggest fear is children, they are the enemy. But the group’s core belief gets challenged by a new member, Stitch, who comes from a home with a strong presence of domestic violence and verbal abuse.
We have Kiwi talent on board such as Cohen Holloway (Thor: Ragnarok & Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Calvin Tuteao (Once were Warriors & The Dead Lands) & Roy Snow (Spartacus & Shortland Street) plus many other super talented kiwis all lined up to either do some of the toys voice overs or act in the film which we are pumped about!
WHY WE WANT TO MAKE THIS FILM.
Last year in 2020 we made a 3 minute version of Bear Hugs and entered it into the international film competition ‘My Rode Reel’. We won 2nd place in the drama category and were totally stoked!
We have had such amazing feedback on the message of the film that we feel a more in depth and fleshed out version (10-15min) could do wonders at international short film festivals.
WHAT WILL YOUR MONEY GO TO?
The majority of this film is being self funded by us however we are seeking funds to help with post production costs.
Your donations will go towards paying for a professional sound mix done by a local studio in Christchurch. It will also help cover entry fees into a majority of film festivals.
