Baroque Music Summer Workshop and Concert Tour
Baroque Music Community and Educational Trust of New Zealand | Music
The Project
This Baroque music summer programme includes an intensive workshop followed by a 16-day concert tour around the South Island, covering 11 cities and towns, culminating in a performance in Wellington. We're seeking extra funding to help make this possible.
THE PROGRAMME
The programme focused on Baroque Music and open to aspiring professional-level string players. We are also seeking a qualified harpsichordist.
The workshop and rehearsals are focused on the performance practice of core Baroque music repertoire, and will take place in Christchurch. Included in the programme is a specially written composition for this event – “In The Baroque Manner” (NZ-style) by Rakuto Kurano, a young composer from Christchurch.
The workshop commences with a presentation on recent research into period-appropriate performance practice of high Baroque music, focused on the concerto grosso – led by internationally qualified and respected baroque cellist, Tomas Hurnik. The following 6 days of intensive rehearsals are led by workshop faculty Tomas Hurnik and Mark Menzies who perform with the ensemble.
THE FUNDS
The funds you help us raise will go directly towards expenses for the workshop and concert tour such as:
- accommodation for the twelve students
- concert venue fees
- fuel
We have received partial funding for this project from the local government arts grants via the Creative Communities Scheme, our benefactor Dame Adrienne Stewart, KBB Music and other miscellaneous anonymous donors.
Thank you for your support.
