The Project
Talofa lava, Kia Ora and greetings, On March 24 2024 I’m bringing the original Pasefika opera singers for a once in the lifetime concert for Toi Ahurei Toi o Tamaki Auckland Arts Festival; ‘The O.Gs a celebration of the original Pasefika Opera singers’ This campaign is to fund the 18 piece bespoke orchestra for the event.
Our O.G conductor is Maestro Dr Opeloge Ah Sam.

The O.Gs’ is an exciting prospect and features a veritable who’s who of international opera: *Aivale Cole soprano - Samoa/Niue*Tenors Ben Makisi Tenor Toga/ Samoa , Siliga Sani Muliaumaseali’i (me!) * Eddie Muliaumaseali’i Bass Baritone, Samoa * Lotte Latukefu Toga first international Mezzo * Special guest soprano Deborah Wai Kapohe
The O.Gs are Aotearoa NZ’s living and singing history and have contributed greatly to the cultural life of our nation and globally. Something worth acknowledging. This project ignites the spirit, reconciles nostalgia and offers this generation of artists - and our audiences - a share in the kaumatua arts practise.
The orchestra will likely not had a chance to work along theses Oceanic Giants and this opportunity grants access to a combined career total of two centuries of excellence and experience!
ABOUT: Maestro Dr Opeloge Ah Sam.
Opeloge is a Samoan New Zealander composer and educator.Dr. Ah Sam studied music composition at Auckland University and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and completed a Ph.D. in music composition at Victoria University of Wellington, where he worked as a mentor and lecturer in Pasifika Music Performance. In 2021 he was a research fellow at Victoria University for 2021. During his career, Opeloge has worked as a professional musician in various roles including composer, conductor, pianist, stage manager, percussionist, and event manager. His composition We are Pasifika, the first fully Pacific orchestral repertoire concert of its kind, was performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra.Passionate about music education, Opeloge is a music teacher at Abundant Life School in Kaitaia. live in probably three or four different contexts in my life... I'm Samoan, and that's one of my homes, I'm a Kiwi and that's another part of who I am. The music I listen to, the work I do, the schools... you know, there's so many different spaces I work within. And there's also the work in the church."
