Ayn Randy Music Video

We are producing a music video for the Wellington punk band Ayn Randy. The video is for the song Black Mould from their 2019 EP 'Talk Talk talk'. We are two Massey University students who are very enthusiastic about music video as a medium and genre in and of itself. The money raised will go towards location fees, actors, transport and art department. We are shooting on location in Porirua and hope to have the video complete in November.

WHO 

Ayn Randy started out in 2015 with Tanya (Rogernomix) and Liz (Awkward Death, Hair Brainz) jamming on bass and drums. TJ "Liz and I wanted to start something. I wanted to play bass and was also going through a rough period and Liz was like "come and do this". Liz: "It was winter and we didn't have anything else to do."

The duo were joined by Bonnie (Poverty & Spit, Shock Futuro) on guitar and Kitt on drums. After Liz and Kitt saw a documentary (All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace) they came up with the name Ayn Randy, a piss-take of libertarian philosopher Ayn Rand.

Liz: We were like texting the other band members at 5am in the morning saying this name (Ayn Randy) is hilarious and no one really got it.

TJ: I thought it was hilarious but I didn't actually know who Ayn Rand was.

Liz: You were like as long it's not something political

TJ: And then it was but it was funny!

Liz: It's definitely a curse of a name because people always want to ask us questions about it which we get sick of.

TJ: I just wanted something to be a bit more fun. I'm in Rogernomix and lyrically that's a lot more politically driven and I just wanted this to be a lot more loose and fun.

Ayn Randy's debut album was recorded at Scumbag College and released at the Newtown Bowls Club on August 5, 2017.

In September Ayn Randy were approached to play an opening slot for the sell-out dad-rock band Foo Fighters (and Weezer) on February 3, 2018 at Mount Smart Stadium. NZ Herald: Local Band Opening for Foo Fighters

Jerry Sauvao  is an aspiring filmmaker and screenwriter. Currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Media Production at Massey University, the former musician is interested in telling authentic, compelling stories with an emphasis on empowering marginalised voices. 

Isaac Nimmo  is an aspiring videographer and photographer studying a Bachelor of Communications at Massey University in Wellington, majoring in Media Studies. Isaac has a passion in music video production, focusing on genres such as Hip Hop and R&B. Isaac ultimately wants to showcase the flair in New Zealand video on a global scale, while adopting his own style.

WHAT

We are scheduled to shoot the video at Aotea Lagoon on the minitrain. The music video will combine several classic special effects elements and will be shot in one take. We decided on the lagoon location as it invokes nostalgia for Wellingtonians and then minitrain acts as a dolly track. 

HOW

We are raising funds to help pay for location fees, talent, art department (including confetti cannons and helium baloons), transport and catering. We are hoping to release the music video early November.
