Artist Residency Lapua
Noa Campbell | Theatre
The Project
Kia ora, greetings my name is Noa.
I am a wahine Maori theatre practitioner in Aotearoa. I'm excited to have this opportunity to be accepted to the Vanha Paukku artist residency for November and December in Lapua, Finland.
I am a professionally trained actor, playwright and director. My project is artist development, spending focused time activating new work, photographing, writing text, and exploring physically for performance in public space.
I am drawn to make a new work for public space and create a presentation on the Maitriacal feminine. Woman that have influenced and inspired me in leadership.
I'm interested in creating a narrative based on the woman that leads the tribe. She is the elder. The songstress. The nurturer.
The totem (Pou).
The lover.
The grandmother.
Some cultures may refer to her as "Crone"
How do we experience this culturally as indigenous?
How does culture cross over from protocols, or ritual to performance?
This work is to present in public space. The mahi will be at the Cultural Centre in Lapua.
I will also be presenting workshops/wananga in indigenous practice in theatre.
Your koha/donation will support my artist practice and developing the new work in Lapua.
I really look forward to sharing my creative journey with you my supporters and with the community in Lapua.
Thank you, nga mihi aroha.
