Overview
We're turning to our community to help raise $30,000 to create our next big project - a surrealist journey of self-discovery.
Antique Angel is an immersive studio album and short film that explores the profound journey of self-discovery and the battle between humanity and technology. It combines elements of music, surrealist visuals, light, and theatre to create a sonic and visual experience that aims to inspire, shock, and guide audiences through an exploration of the 'true self' and the 'shadow’, celebrating the beauty and darkness within us all.
The heart of "Antique Angel" lies within its studio album, a musical journey that blends genres and explores the depths of human emotions. Each track is carefully crafted to immerse listeners in a sonic landscape that mirrors the film's themes of self-discovery, the battle between man and machine, and the celebration of ancient myths and symbols, set against the breathtaking landscapes of the Nelson Tasman region of New Zealand.
Our main character, Max, embarks on a transformative journey, encountering angels, devils, lovers, mothers, gods, and disciples along the way. Through encounters with these diverse and symbolic characters, Max is challenged to confront his inner demons, resist the allure of technology, and reconnect with nature, and the essence of his humanity.
YOUR SUPPORT
To bring this project to life, we need your help. We believe that "Antique Angel" has the potential to make a real impact on audiences, provoking introspection and encouraging a deeper, more loving and meaningful relationship with the self.
With your support, we will be able to do the following:
-
- Fairly pay our talented and dedicated team of musicians, film-makers, visual artists, and performers
- Feed our crew
- Secure high-quality equipment
- Cover travel costs and accommodation
- Pay for filming permits in Department of Conservation National Parks
- Ensure health and safety on location
All these costs add up and Boosted is an all or nothing campaign, so we really can’t do this without you! In return for your donation, your name will be in the credits of the film and you'll receive a special invitation to the first screening/performance.

PROJECT PLAN
We have completed the recording of the studio album at Birdling Studios in Richmond. These were beautifully collaborative sessions. The album is currently being mixed and mastered.
The first chapter of seven was filmed at the Nelson Lakes National Park in November 2023, and is currently being edited. The other six chapters will be filmed between April - July 2024 and combined into one short film, creating our sonic and visual experience to be screened and performed across New Zealand in the same year.
We are also producing a short documentary about the making of the studio album to be released towards the end of the year, edited by Max Webborn.
ARTIST / DIRECTOR STATEMENT
"I truly see this project as an extension of my heart and soul and I hope that it will connect us more deeply to ourselves and our communities in the spirit of love, openness, and fearless expression."

Project Updates
WE DID IT! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart ❤️🔥
WE DID IT!!! WOW. A successful Boosted crowd-funding campaign! My heart is singing with enormous amounts of gratitude for your generosity and belief in me, in the vision of Antique Angel, and in the arts of our beautiful country.
What a journey this has been. A challenge, one that made me steep into a very uncomfortable zone of asking people for money. But I realised that all I needed to do was keep believing in my vision and just ask with an open-heart, and I have been continually reminded of the kindness and compassion that exists within humanity from good people like you.
Thank you for listening, for giving, and for sharing. This experience and result has truely made me understand the power of community. Together, we can do amazing things!
I am currently on tour with Genre Fluid. We have been selected by Arts On Tour NZ to play 20 shows in 30 days in this month of March. It’s been a wonderful and wild ride so far. On my return, myself and the AA team will refresh the film budget, and build a new plan to shoot the next six music videos between April — July this year. Our aim is to have a finished product by October — “A sonic and visual experience about a surrealist journey of self-discovery”.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the project. And if you’re interested in reading about my creative process, behind-the-scenes, and other creative content, subscribe to my email newsletter, The Silk Diary at silksatinsuede.com/diary
A reminder to those who donated that you qualify for a 33% tax credit because ‘Boosted’ is run by a charitable trust!
I have some special thank you’s to the following people for their unconditional love and support:
- Mum & Dad — for your unwavering belief in me, and for being the most incredible parents one could ask for.
- Geoff & Sheree Sherlock @ Room Twenty5 — for letting me use your music equipment and your venue for my campaign event. You give so much life to our community!
- Sharon Dunbar @ Nelson Tailors Menswear — for your generosity and belief in me, and for your beautiful spirit.
Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for your support in making this crowd-funding campaign a success. We can now make this concept album and film a reality with a brilliant team of local creatives. Much much love, Max ❤️👁️
