ANIMAL
Harriett Maire | Theatre
Overview
They've taken our land, kidnapped our young, slaughtered our kind and sold the remains...
Deep in the rural south of New Zealand, the animals of James Cook Farm have had enough of their colonisers. A crack of thunder in the distance. The revolution is coming.
ANIMAL explores the cycle of oppression and marginalisation, and radicalisation, and hypothesises on the best way forward in a politically divided world. For us, creative work needs to play a vital role in addressing these issues. We're seeking to be a part of this conversation. Through re-telling the infamous and powerful work of George Orwell's Animal Farm, we hope to shine a light on our country's own relationship with marginalisation.
We are Harriett Maire and Arlo Green. We're combining our storytelling skills and our personal experiences with marginalisation to bring this contemporary piece of work to Auckland audiences. ANIMAL is a punchy 90 minute show, which will be staged at the Basement Theatre from 22 - 26 October. We're working in collaboration with University of Auckland's Stray Theatre Company, and have an exciting, dynamic and ridiculously talented cast of 22 actors to tell this sordid story. We're all excited about this piece, and can't wait to share it with you.
However, plays cost money. In order to put this on upstairs at the Basement, we're going to need some help. Because of our large cast number, we have had to limit the amount of audience members per night. And because we can't rely on our small audience capacity to cover the costs of putting on the play, that's where you come in.
The funds raised from this Boosted campaign will pay for:
- High quality lighting design
- Professional fight choreography
- High quality costumes, set & props
Having a successful Boosted also means we can cover the costs of involvement for our cast and crew, meaning no individual has to work to a personal loss to be involved.
We have an incredible cast of twenty-two, who are listed below:
RHEMA SUTHERLAND
BRONWYN ENSOR
TYLER KOKIRI WILSON
CHRISTEL CHAPMAN
THOMAS FINK-JENSEN
