Overview
WHO
I'm Moana Ete. I'm a Multi-Disciplinary Artist. I make music, I direct theatre, I write scripts and I act. This year I am writing and recording a second album, creating a short film, writing a feature film and gathering funds for this project called All of the Above.
You can view some of my past work here.
WHAT & WHY
All of the Above is a theatrical work bringing together sound and lighting design, ensemble work and cinema. I believe Māori/Pasifika narrative is a taonga to be protected and I'm driven to tell stories that centre around our stories, our relationships, our realities and our dreams for the future.
HOW
My approach is to reclaim Māori/Pasifika narrative with storylines and characters that ring true to people of colour living, working and raising the next generation in Aotearoa. Like Rowley Habib, Pacific Underground, Naked Samoans, The Laughing Samoans, The Conch, Tawata, Piki Films, Brown Apple Sugar Grunt, Hāpai, Culture Factory before me, this is another offering.
I want to empower my audience to ask themselves 'What kind of stories will I archive for the next generation?'
THE ASK
I hope to raise $3000 that will be matched by Boosted x Moana Fund ($3000) giving me about $6000 to bring specific practitioners on board. How much I can raise from you here and other funding bodies - like Creative New Zealand - determines the scale of the project. If I meet all my funding goals I will work with a cast and crew of 15 to develop a 50-60 minute work, on the smallest scale I'm looking at a solid team of 5, creating a 15-20 minute showing to develop further down the track.
Thank you for reading / listening.
