ACE

THE FILM

ACE, a short film. 

6 year old Jimmy - fun, adventurous, and yet to experience the world embarks on an epic journey through his imagination with his best friend Ace. 

In a quest to save his parents marriage, Jimmy along with Ace venture to the east coast of Aotearoa in search of some papers that Jimmy believes will keep his family together. Along the way Jimmy's journey takes him into the underworld where he is met with his ancestors. Jimmy is forced to continued his mythical journey to go where he's never been before. He needs to find the strength and courage to get to the mountain where he will find what he is looking for but at a cost. Jimmy must make the biggest sacrifice of all. He will lose his friend Ace but will discover himself. Jimmy will never be the same after this life changing adventure. 

BACKGROUND

ACE is the first film written by filmmaker Ray Edwards.

Since writing ACE, Ray has had a successful career as a cinematographer and director. However, this is a project that has remained closed to his heart.

Now over 10 years later, the time has come to make ACE...

This story takes you on the hero’s journey, a theme represented in countless indigenous stories worldwide. It's been told in many ways emblematic of different cultures and histories but the underlying messaging is universal.

THE TEAM

ACE's filmmaking team comprises emerging talent both in front of and behind the camera, including writer/director Ray Edwards, producer Lindsay Gough and associate producer, Johnny Wheeler.  

The team will be collaborating with award-wining cinematographer, Dave Garbett.

Leading roles will be Vinnie Bennett as Ace and making his acting debut is Kauri te Piha Reihana Morunga as young Jimmy.

WHAT WE'VE ACHIEVED SO FAR

We are producing ACE as an independent short film i.e. without government agency funding. 

This is only been made possible thanks to the fabulous team of creatives and technicians donating their time and expertise as well as the support of local vendors.

We acknowledge that we couldn't have got this far without the support and generosity of our colleagues and peers. However, we need the support of the community to make ACE possible and bring the story to life.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We invite your participation in bringing this special film to life. We are now running a 30-day donation-based crowdfunding campaign to raise $20,000 to go towards the film's final budget.

This will ensure that we commence principal photography in Auckland in April. Your generous donation will go towards production expenses for the film, such as art department, costumes, locations, travel, and catering for our cast and crew.
