Common Ground

The film is about Micah. He’s a bit gruff, but underneath he’s quite gentle. He lives off-grid in a fixer-upper caravan, and spends his days foraging for wild herbs and mushrooms, collecting eggs from his property, helping out neighbors, and sketching wildlife and nature. But one morning his sister Ruby comes to visit, they haven't seen each other in years. She’s materialistic and corporate, so they don’t usually get along very well, but she’s got some personal turmoil going on so they spend the afternoon together, reconnecting. The story essentially explores the relationship between these two siblings who have vastly different lifestyles and polar opposite world views, but come from the same place. The story essentially explores the relationship between these two siblings who have vastly different lifestyles and polar opposite world views, but come from the same place. On a deeper level, it’s about the conflict between traditional values and modern culture. Ruby’s character idolises possessions and prioritises convenience, whereas Micah’s character represents a belief that life has meaning beyond material.
