
James Roque
James Roque is the Filipino step-son of New Zealand comedy. With over 10 years of experience as a comedian - he has had multiple shows under his belt as part of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival.
In 2018 he debuted his acclaimed show Legal Alien in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival before taking it back home across the ditch.
In 2019, James debuted his latest show Boy Mestizo to sold out audiences in Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington and Auckland. He garnered a nomination for the Fred Award for Best Show in the 2019 NZ International Comedy Festival.
James’ New Zealand television credits include 7 Days, Have You Been Paying Attention? NZ, The NZ Comedy Gala, Funny Girls and Last at 11. James was also featured on Jono and Ben, as the host of the Week in Five.
As well as a thriving solo career, James is also one third of the sketch group Frickin Dangerous Bro, alongside Pax Assadi and Jamaine Ross. The trio released their TV show Frickin Dangerous Bro: On The Road in 2021.
Outside of comedy, James has also been involved in theatre. He is a co-founder of Proudly Asian Theatre, a theatre company dedicated to showcasing more Asian-NZ stories onstage and and has played the lead role of Sidu in Indian Ink Theatre Company’s Kiss the Fish, which toured New Zealand and USA.
