Karin Reid and Alex Wolken
Indie Jazz duo, Karin Reid (voice) and Alex Wolken (electric guitar) have developed a repertoire of decidedly 'noir' takes on a mixture of some of their favourite music - everything from alt-pop-rock tunes and jazz standards, to revamped modal jazz and post-bop compositions from the ‘masters’. The duo imaginatively coax rich and evocative harmonies and subtle grooves from their minimal setup as they guide audiences on an intimate journey through the inner space of these compositions.
Currently they are working on creating original compositions together which build on the more exploratory tendencies within their repertoire, with a view towards recording and touring in 2021. With Reid's sultry and compelling voice and Wolken's intricate harmonically rich guitar work they weave post-bop, modal jazz and free improvisation influences into their subtly evocative and personal musical vignettes.
KARIN REID is a Dunedin and Wellington-based vocalist noted for the hypnotic qualities of her sultry and ethereal voice, her rich vocal colourings expressing the darker side of the jazz tradition.
ALEX WOLKEN is a Dunedin-based guitarist, composer and songwriter. As a guitarist his predominantly fingerstyle electric playing is rooted in modern jazz while drawing on elements of blues, dark psychedelia, free improvisation and more, with an emphasis on texture, tone, feel and harmony.

Boosted How To Guides
Mapping your crowd
Crowdfunding is not about you. It’s about the community around what you do. Your crowd.
And there’s a difference between your audience and your crowd. Your crowd are the people personally, financially, and emotionally invested in you successfully completing your art project. They’re with you for the journey. They’re with you for your career.31 Aug 2024 -
Boosted How To Guides
Running events
Events can raise awareness of your campaign, raise money, reward your core crowd and create opportunities for media coverage.
But they can be time-consuming to organise, so if you can piggyback on existing events where you can make an ask, or have a supporter ask for you, even better.
