Arts Foundation Update - Issue 2008 Jun 2012
Congratulations to all who were acknowledged in the Queen's Birthday Honours, including Arts Foundation Icon Award recipient Sir Peter Jackson , who was given New Zealand's highest honour as a member of the Order of New Zealand. Dr Roderick Deane (now Sir Roderick Deane) has been knighted (KNZM) for his service to business and the community. Roderick and his wife Gillian received the Arts Foundation Award for Patronage in 2008. Other accolades have gone to Michael Houstoun and Auckland Art Gallery director Chris Saines (CNZM); Shane Cotton and John Pule (ONZM); and Arts Foundation Patron Ed Allen (MNZM).
Congratulations to Denis Adam, recipient of a Gold Award at the Wellington Gold Awards , in recognition of his philanthropic support of artists, music academies and orchestras, as well as the concert hall and art gallery supported at Victoria University. The Gold Awards have been held every year since 1999 to recognise enterprise and excellence in Wellington business.
The novella Medicine Woman by Witi Ihimaera is being turned into a film by Award-winning film-maker Dana Rotberg. Dana wrote the screenplay and directed the movie, which was shot in the Urewera and Auckland over March and April. Whirimako Black stars in the lead role of Paraiti, a medicine woman who is asked to hide a secret which may protect a position in society but will destroy a life. The film is due for release in 2013.
Warren Maxwell has produced Songs from the Inside, with Anika Moa, Maisey Rika and Ruia Aperahama. The album features songs produced in conjunction with the TV series, which follows singer-songwriters Moa, Maxwell, Rika and Aperahama as they teach ten inmates at Rimutaka and Arohata Prisons the art of writing, performing and recording their own songs in just ten weeks. The album goes on sale on 9 June.
Congratulations to Kelly Bennett, Eleven PR New Zealand founder and Managing Partner, who will lead the expansion of parent-company TBWA with its brand activation, experiential and PR services for the network throughout Asia Pacific. In his new role (based in Auckland) Bennett will foster inter-agency collaboration, growth and development throughout the various TBWA offices in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
